In a normal summer season there are watersports centres offering fun and tuition for all levels and ages at places including Blue Bay and Driros beach on the road to Plaka, Melissos beach, the large centres at and near many of the luxury hotels such as the Blue Palace and Elounda Beach in addition to the range of watersports (waterkski, banana, ringo, pedaloes, inflatables) available from the town's main beach.

Boats are registered under the Agios Nikolaos authorities (ΑΝ plus an alphabetical prefix so boat registrations begin with letters including ΣΑΝ and ΤΑΝ followed by a number) although the bay has its own port authority office (approx 2 mins south of the centre in the civic building - not port of entry - entry port is Agios Nikolaos).

The various Trip Boats to the island of Spinalonga safely transport many thousands of holiday makers each month. Seats on the trip boats can be booked from the booking desk on the quayside running alongside the square from Megaro Restaurant to Vritomartis. They depart every thirty minutes during the season. You can also catch boats from Plaka to Spinalonga which is a much shorter journey. You will also find plenty of BBQ cruises offering all-in day cruise and barbeque. The barbeques are normally held on the peninsula, near the beach that is facing Kolokithia island. .
