Kolokithia Island

Kolokithia Island sits off the eastern shores of 'Big' Spinalonga. The small beach opposite provides a popular destination for trip boats from both Elounda and Ag Nik. At times in excess of 500 people will gather there on 6+ boats, many of which are licensed for in excess of 100 people each. The clear blue waters, however, offer plenty of space for cooling off with a dip prior to a BBQ lunch. Other ways you might see it spelt in Latin script are Kolikitha, Kolakitha, Kolokythia and a host of other variations. The southern tip of Kolokithia island has relative shallows and the water between the island and 'Big' Spinalonga is almost a miniaturised version of the bay on which Elounda (Schisma) and Plaka sit.
