The Midseason 2010 Roundup from Mike @ Elounda77
2010 has already seen some great times in Elounda in a year of cuts, strikes and uncertain times. Tourism has been hit hard throughout Europe but visitors have been able to find some great bargains in Elounda and Plaka holidays and travel in 2010 so far. Spinalonga has to some extent been a saviour of the area with continued strong interest in the island amongst Greek and non-Greek holidaymakers. The filming of To Nhsi continues in the area, with the serial due to air during Mega's autumn season.
No, the new road doesn't seem to be progressing at any pace yet before anyone asks. It's still 'under construction' but new businesses are opening up all the time and the area's redevelopment continues apace. Just some known additions include Yoni, Enter, Miakoda, Plaka Watersports and Xaroupia whilst Eklektos is now under new ownership, Spinalonga Windsurf has relocated to the end of the main beach in Plaka and Blue Star have a different boat. Meanwhile....
Alyggos saw in its twentieth anniversary with a great Elounda bash.
Plaka continues to develop as a quality holiday destination, aided by its superb views to Spinalonga

Plaka features quality dining and nightlife including live music at To Pevkos
Mount Oxa's still going nowhere in our archive of local shots!

The World Cup drew people out in force for some football action.
July brought a mixture of still, windy, hot and humid days.

With the heat turned up the night became party time at the beach party
and Alyggos mid-season party.

Now in the heat of the summer, August time is family holiday time in Elounda

We've recently added some video to the /virtualtour section with some footage of the Elounda area from Ag Nik through Schisma to Plaka. You can also follow some of our updates, news, links and web observations on Twitter by checking out @makeitgreece #elounda77.
This summer I have mostly been...
....catching up with old friends at some local places and events, including a board meetup on the night of the 5th August power-cut.
....in and out on the bay. June to August's certainly the best time to get in the water; it's so tempting on a hot summer's afternoon, even for just a bit of snorkelling off the shore. Boat trips are always a great way to spend time and the crowd of people entertaining and interesting folks.
....hanging out at Alyggos, Evangelia's, FRuenDS, All in One / Quick & Fresh, Maritsa, Eleman, Pevkos, Babel, Ferryman's, Hellas, Bar Bee and Miakoda plus quite a few others. Around the clock, Elounda doesn't seem to stop in the summer and the visitor has many choices at almost any time of the day or night.
Here's looking forward to the rest of the summer...
