World Cup Fever hits Elounda as Spain beat The Netherlands 1-0
Soccer pulled people into the bars in the village throughout the month long world cup, with many places sporting large projector screens, multiple plasmas or upgraded TV systems specially for the tournament. By the time the final came, Greece and England were both long gone from the world cup but a final with two European nations meant that there would still be plenty of supporters of both teams in the village. The final drew people out in droves and some of the bars were heaving to capacity. Places with large screens or multiple TVs, already popular for their football, including Babel, Alyggos, Mezzo, Eden and Camelot, were probably the busiest around the square and harbour at the half time break when most of these pictures were taken. With the score at 0-0 on the final whistle, fans were in for another 30 minutes of what had been a fairly scrappy match beset by yellow cards, and nearly all of those extra minutes were needed before Iniesta popped home Spain's winning goal. Some were left elated, some were downhearted and some just glad the whole thing was over for another four years! Next stop Euro 2012.
