Easter 2009 - Friday - Saturday Night - Sunday

Saturday evening and the turn of the hour to midnight, marking Easter Sunday, sees a service in the church and the candle-lit procesion through the village and back to the church. As midnight approaches, everyone gathers round the church to hear the announcement of "Christos anesti" (Christ has risen), and fireworks of celebration. The effigy of Judas was burnt on a pontoon on the water near the main pier this year and as the fires died down, people headed home for maygaritsa and their preparations for the Easter Sunday barbeque.
